A great classic truck is something that truck collectors and car enthusiasts alike strive to possess. The Chevy C60 is one such truck that has captivated a nation for decades. This truck is one that will forever be considered a classic and that will go down in history as one of the best trucks that Chevy ever made.
Notable specs about the Chevy C60:

What is the Chevy C60?
The C60 was part of the C/K line of work trucks released by Chevrolet in the year 1959. This was a work truck that was released to have more power, more pull, and to be more useful for those that were completing a large amount of work every day.
The C60 remained largely unchanged in style and engine for the first few years of production. In 1968, however, the C60 got a total overhaul with a new engine that was more powerful, as well as more rear axle options, to help increase and improve overall tow ratings.
The C60 was in production until the 1980s when it was phased out, as were the rest of the C/K trucks. New models and body styles took over, giving way to the trucks that we all know Chevy to be popular for today.
Engine and Towing Capacity
The C60 was a work truck. This means that is was designed to do a hard day’s work without buckling and without balking. The C60 originally had a 366 V8 gasoline engine or a DH-478 diesel engine depending on which option you chose.
The tandem rear axle construction made it possible to haul anywhere from 30,000 to 34,000 pounds and the brakes were vacuum hydraulic.
In 1968, the engine was upgraded to a 427 cubic inch V8 engine and the 23,000 rear axle options were updated to ratings of 60,000 pounds. The engine offered 300 horse power and this truck was used for heavy-duty work like construction work and road work.
The body style for the Chevy C60 was boxy and square, much like the older Chevy pickup trucks that we still see today. These trucks were meant for a work day and were meant to be easy to use, easy to drive, and useful for those that were working every day.
Since these trucks were meant for work, they were not all that comfortable. This means they did not have premium interior options, they did not have a ton of extras, and they did not have a ton of entertainment options either. They did have radios but that was pretty much it.
These trucks were designed to be able to go over the road, to go over nearly any terrain, and to be a truly useful truck for those that needed a work vehicle that was going to be able to handle anything that was thrown at them.
This is also a vehicle that was not super big on safety. It does have basic safety features like seat belts, but things like active braking and any sort of technological safety systems are not going to be present.
Is the C60 Right for You?
C60s are not a truck that is still in production so if you are looking for a new C60 you are out of luck. With the C60 you are going to be looking for trucks that are used, trucks that are on auction sites, or that are being sold by private sellers.
The C60 is a great classic truck. This is a fantastic truck if you are looking for something that is going to get you some attention, that is going to get you some real looks, but that is not going to get great gas mileage. This is certainly not a daily driver and is not something that you would get if you wanted to drive this truck to and from work.

Not an accurate article
Lot of 'hit-and-miss' information in this article. Yes, the C60/65 was a 'medium duty' Chevrolet truck meant to span the gap between 1-ton (C30) Class 3 trucks and the 'heavy duty' Class 8 trucks (aka '80 Series' or known by GMC affectionados as 'The General'), it most-often came with six cylinder 292-cubic inch 6-cylinder engines...or the 366 'Big Block'. It is rare to find a 4V53 Detroit Diesel or 427 cubic inch 'Big Block' in them, and even if you do find one, the 427 placed in the trucks greatly differed from the 427 placed in cars. It was known as 427 'Tall Block', as the piston did not rise flush with the block deck at TDC, thus reducing compression from 10.0:1 to a more-manageable 8.5:1 ratio. In fact, this block with mild prepatory work, can be turned into a 454 engine, quite easily. Also, while still 20-years now out-of-production (on the original C60-design), it is quite-easy to find trucks with less than 100k miles, especially in agricultural areas, as they were used as 'grain' or 'farm trucks', and many are only now being retired as family farms go the way of the 'family milk cow'. You can find a single-rear-axle C60 with less than 100k miles, often, for less than $5,000 during 'spring farm sales'.

Article Not Quite Hitting Any Mark of Excellence
I've an '87 C60 I use as a daily driver, purchased for $3k from a local farmer. Personally, I don't know anyone who'd want this truck in a "collection" as it's pretty much just a basic truck, albeit large and in charge for what it is. Aside from that laughable notion, the engine specs implied are not the norm. The standard 5.7L 350 can be found more often than not today due to its decades-long support, an engine found in most GM cars / trucks of that era due to its reliability, dependability and myriad of high performance upgrades. Is the C60 right for you? Do you work for a living or do you want a trail boss? Outside these options, no. You don't want a C60 because you're either going to park it most of the time for lack of purpose or sink $ tens of thousands into it to convert it to a far more useful, less fuel-efficient EFI with chopped frame to accommodate an era-specific truck bed for everyday use. The ambiguity of this article demonstrates that author probably has never even seen a C60 up close and personal. It's not, by any means, a collector's prize beyond a very niche market of enthusiasts who appreciate medium duty durability over light duty aesthetics.

The author of this article I'm guessing has never seen a c60 in person and has combined stats from c50 to c70 trucks. The original c60 had a six cylinder engine NOT the big block 366.or the 4~53 Detroit diesel which was the original diesel option for these trucks. A tandem axle capable of the weights in the article was never made in in form.

The C50 was a medium-duty truck, although later it was marketed more as a generic truck than just a workhorse, considering a new body style with awesome looks. There was a whole range of engine options, both gasoline and diesel for the C50 truck, and the looks to match as well.

The Chevrolet 1 ton truck, Silverado 3500HD, is all about payload and towing. This is the class of truck you will want to be looking at when hauling and heavy towing.
Off the bat, the black bow tie has no specific significance behind it. It is purely an aesthetic choice, with most Chevy models able to be optioned with either the “regular” gold bow tie or the newer black one. In fact prior to 2017, the Corvette Z06 was not only the fastest Chevy, but also the fastest car produced by all of General Motors. MotorBiscuit reports the Z06 has a 6.2-liter, supercharged V8 engine that supports 650 hp and can reach over 200 mph.

Famous Cateye trucks
The pickup sported the Cateye design for a few years and continues to be popular in the used truck market. One of the reasons truck enthusiasts opt to invest in a used Silverado is their performance. Its engines tend to be more reliable and cheaper to work on than the newer ones we see today.
Chevrolet used this slogan particularly to market their pickup trucks, and, again, it was a hit. The Like a Rock slogan ran in Chevy ads from 1991 to 2004. Nowadays, Chevrolet employs the slogan Find New Roads.
Chevy Silverado – A bit of history
Chevy introduced the Silverado (and its counterpart, the GMC Sierra) as the successor of Chevrolet's legendary C/K line in 1988.
Chevy LTZ stands for “luxury touring z”, with “z” symbolizing the next step up from the “LT” trim. Davenport drivers may notice numbers with an LTZ trim, like “LTZ1” or “1LTZ”. Because the LTZ label is only available on higher-up trims, there aren't as many Chevy models with the LTZ label.
Introduced in 1999, the Chevrolet Silverado replaced the Chevrolet C/K as Chevrolet's flagship line of pickup trucks.
The most powerful small block ever produced is the LS9 engine used in the current Corvette ZR1. It is rated at 638 horsepower, making it the most powerful engine ever produced by GM for a regular-production car. The lowest-output small block was the 1975-76 262 V-8 rated at 110 horsepower.
Generation I - Shockwave
In 1955, Chevrolet introduced the Small Block V8, so-called because of its compact design. This first version featured 265 CID of displacement and produced 180 hp (some sources claim 195 hp).
In its mildest tune it produced 185 bhp at 4600 rpm; a four-barrel card brought this up to 220 bhp; two fours resulted in either 245 or 270; and Chevy's new "Ramjet" fuel injection system boosted output to no less than 250 or 283.
What Is The Difference Between a Vortec and an LS Engine? Nothing really. Engines with the LS designation were typically set up for passenger car duty while the Vortec line was for GM's SUV and truck lines.
The engine's intake valve and combustion chamber design also are much different than previous truck engine models. The Vortec combustion chamber is a kidney-shaped design that promotes better performance. The Chevy 5.7L Vortec engine was replaced in 2002 by the Chevy 5.3L (5300) engine in 2002.
The redesigned cylinder heads of a Vortec engine provides for improved combustion efficiency. The intake ports (reshaped) of the engine provides for better cylinder filling and fuel atomization by promoting higher air flow velocities to the combustion chambers via the ports.
The 7.0-liter V8 LS7 is an engine produced by General Motors for use in high-performance vehicles. Notably, General Motors released a new LS7-based LS427/570 crate motor with an increased output of 570 horsepower and 540 pound-feet of torque, which is a bump of 65 horsepower and 70 pounds of twist.
The Chevette itself was initially available only as a two-door hatchback with a 1.4-liter OHC or 1.6-liter OHC gasoline inline-four engine. Engines produced from 53 to 60 horsepower (40 to 45 kW) (subsequently 53 to 70 horsepower (40 to 52 kW)), driving the rear wheels.
“The first Muscle Car” – In 1961 Chevrolet decided to fine tune the company's performance image and boost sales further by offering a “Super Sport” package on its full-sized Chevrolet Impala. The “SS” package was introduced late in the model year with an “all new” 409 engine option.
With its classic 427-cubic-inch displacement, the 505-hp LS7 7.0L made its mark in the C6 Corvette Z06 and advanced its legacy in the fifth-generation Camaro Z/28.

The Chevette's 1.6-liter engine was excruciatingly slow: 0-60 took 19.7 seconds, while the Datsun and Renault did it in the low 17s.
Compared to the garden-variety small imports, the Chevette's powerplant is in a primitive state of tune—and performance suffers accordingly. Flat out, the test car was capable of only 81 mph. In acceleration, it required 19.8 seconds to complete the standing quarter-mile, with a finishing speed of only 66.3 mph.
The smallest displacement small block V8 ever produced included a 262-cubic-inch (4.3L) version used in the mid-1970s–the same displacement shared by the current small block-based 4.3L V 6. The largest displacement small-block for a production vehicle is the 427-cubic-inch (7.0L) LS7.
The 572 offered from GMPP is designed as a 4.560-inch bore by 4.375-inch stroke combination using rectangle-port aluminum heads on a tall-deck Gen VI block. We built our instrument using a short-deck version of the famous Bow Tie block with the bore and stroke dimensions matching that of the crate engine.
The 409 featured a 4.31-inch bore and 3.5-inch stroke. The intake valves were 2.06 inches and fit next to 1.72-inch exhaust valves. Both actuated by a mechanical camshaft that fed air and fuel to forged pistons that created more than 11:1 compression. With its single four-barrel carb, the engine was rated at 360 hp.
Chevrolet's 348/409 engines were good performers and they were dependable engines.
There are a few visual differences that distinguish a 348 from a 409. The most obvious is the dipstick location. The 348 has it on the left, or driver side; the 409 has it on the right, or passenger side. However, since the pans are interchangeable, it's a simple matter to make one look like the other.
