A basic trim. A minute makeover. A quick blow-dry. You’ve been in the business of grooming people’s hair for too long to kid yourself that clients are coming in for any of these. No, you know they’re actually coming in for an hour or two of pampering; a top-shelf experience that they’re willing to pay good money for. So if you want to up your game, wake up and smell the hemp. Make every client feel like royalty by offering CBD and hemp treatments. Hundreds of hair salon owners are now using CBD products to stand out in the sea of scissor-wielding competitors. We talked to one of those owners, and she’s got a message for you — if you’re a hairdresser, CBD is your golden goose”.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”7858″ img_size=”700×500″][vc_column_text]As one of my friends (a hairstylist in a posh London salon) said:
“Keri, you can be a pretty basic bitch with a pair of scissors, but if you treat a client like a queen, she’ll come back, She will bring friends, too.”
“Honestly, I think we nailed it. What do you think?”
I laughed and laughed… but that got me thinking.
And, after a while, what became crystal clear is that, yes — people want unique experiences. They want to try out new hair treatments. And they want you to make them feel like a million bucks.
That’s why, about a year ago, I introduced various CBD and hemp treatments to my salon’s offering.
I figured they would move slow but hey – at least I was trying new things, right?
Long story short, everything that had CBD on the label sold out during the first week. CBD hair balms, CBD nurturing masks, CBD scalp massage oil… even my CBD-infused welcome tea become an instant hit.
Apparently, CBD was (and still is) huge — I just didn’t know about it!
And since you’re here reading this, I guess you didn’t, either.
Well, colour us both clueless, I guess…
Well, now is your time to pounce.
By introducing a selection of hemp and CBD hair treatments in your salon, you’ll attract a new crowd. You’ll give your existing clients a reason to spend more money with you. And the best part is that you won’t be selling snake oil. Hemp and CBD hair products work as advertised, and that’s based on rock-solid science that you can take to the bank (more on that in a minute).
But before we dive into the science side of things, here’s a quick primer on cannabidiol:
Cannabidiol (CBD) is a non-psychoactive compound found in hemp and marijuana. It’s a close cousin of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) but, instead of giving you the munchies and making you unfit to drive a car, CBD interacts with your own endocannabinoid system to promote bodily homeostasis. It whips up those internal systems of yours into shape, benefiting everything from digestion & immunity to skin & hair health.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”7857″ img_size=”700×500″][vc_column_text]Equally important, though, is CBD’s ability to soothe people and calm them down.
One of my regular clients said that she’s now religious about not missing appointments. Not because she’s over-the-moon about her hair (btw, she has gorgeous hair). But because every visit feels like hitting that big ‘ole reset button. She leaves the chair feeling serene and calm (and with a head full of strong, healthy hair).
Honestly, some of my ladies get so mellow during an appointment, I feel like they wouldn’t care even if I gave them God-awful bangs.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”7856″ img_size=”700×500″][vc_column_text]“If you hold really still, this will just end up looking bad instead of horrible.”
Use CBD to Give Your Clients Good Hair Life Days
Let me virtual-walk you through one of my best-selling CBDfied hair extravaganzas (aptly named ‘Blissful Hair’). This will give you a better idea about how easy it is to fit CBD into your hair salon’s regular offer.
Oh, and if you follow this exact process, you’ll be selling an hour-long appointment for $250 a pop. And that’s without even picking up scissors. See what you’ve been missing out on?
Let’s get to it.
When the client walks in through the door, we make sure they’re comfortable. This means breaking out the magazines, a glass of ice-cold water (or a gin chaser, if the client prescribes to our idea of a relaxing hair appointment), a cup of steaming coffee — whatever they prefer.
But then we add a twist — a pipette prefilled with pure, organic, certified CBD oil. I prefer MedTerra’s CBD oils, but we had great experiences with CBDistillery and Charlotte’s Web products, too. We tell the client to squeeze it under the tongue and hold for 60 seconds.
Ah, the elixir of life… for your hair.
[This is the part where we generally have to do a bit of educating. A lot of people are familiar with CBD but not overly so. Some are afraid that they’ll get stoned or anxious. But they don’t have to be — CBD is not psychoactive in the same way THC is. It affects the body differently, and most people experience mild relaxation. In fact, studies have shown that CBD can do wonders for people struggling with depression or anxiety, so make sure to point that out to nervous clients.]
As the CBD oil works its magic, it’s time to get busy on the hair. After a quick spritz with CBD-infused water, we apply a CBD mask specifically designed to breathe a bit of life into those tired follicles. Right now, we’re using Outre’s Instant Repair CBD Mask, and our clients are loving it. It leaves their hair silky smooth and tangle-free.
The mask also acts on the scalp, cleansing pores, balancing sebum production, and enhancing blood flow. So we make sure to really massage it in there — the client appreciates the much-needed release of head tension, while we ensure deep tissue penetration of CBD.
As an upsell, we offer an optional hand or foot massage, again using CBD oil. CBD’s anti-inflammatory properties work a treat on reducing pain caused by various conditions. Plus, most of our clients enjoy the excellent double massage so it’s a win-win for them.
[While not all clients are open to idle prattle, we found that most want to know about the beneficial effects CBD has on the health of their hair. So we tell them how CBD interacts with CB receptors, reducing inflammatory cytokines on the scalp. This results in less dandruff, zero scalp flakiness, and helps battle scalp dermatitis.
Want your clients to shout from the rooftops about your service?
While the client spends the next 15-20 minutes under the hood, letting the mask percolate, we bring out a selection of CBD-infused teas. This is a perfect end to a perfect hour — the tea (Golden Dream from The Brothers Apothecary is a fan-favorite at our salon) is an extra dose of anti-inflammatories and anti-oxidants that leaves the client all warm and fuzzy. Now, all that’s left is to rinse thoroughly, blow-dry those locks into perfection, and watch your bank account swell.
As your client floats away with an immaculate hairstyle and a big grin on her face, you’re there counting the moolah! That’s $250 (or more) you’ve earned for less than an hour of work (and an extra $50 if you’ve managed to throw a massage).
Not too shabby, right? And all you had to do is add a few extra products to the rotation (okay, and make a pot of tea).
So what do you say — ready to up your game, delight your clients and cash in big by introducing CBD to your hair salon? The perception around hemp products is changing; CBD is mainstream; people are looking for new, all-natural hair treatments. If there ever was a time to act, it’s now. Don’t miss your chance to get in while the going is good!
